The apps are free. This is how they stay that way.
There’s no paid version, no paywalled feature, no ads. Donations cover the running costs and buy the time to build the next app. If one of these replaced a subscription for you, that’s the amount to have in mind.
Where the money goes
There are no investors, no ads, and nothing to upsell. Donations are the whole budget, and they go on three things:
- Code-signing certificates — so Windows stops warning you the installer is from an “unknown publisher”. It’s the single largest recurring cost.
- Download and site hosting — the site, the release files, and the update checks. Small, but real.
- Time — building, fixing, and testing the apps, and starting the next one. This is where most of it goes.
Why only one-off
Unsubbedware exists because software stopped being something you pay for once. Asking you for a subscription — even a voluntary one — would undo the point. So there’s no monthly option, no paid version and no locked features: you give once, when an app has earned it, and that’s the end of it.
How the amounts work
- The names are a thank-you, not a tier. Beginner Supporter to Legend Supporter unlocks nothing — every app is the same for everyone, whatever you give.
- Each app suggests an amount based on what it replaces — a few dollars for a PDF editor, more for a CAD package standing in for a licence that runs to hundreds a year. It’s highlighted when you donate, and it’s only a suggestion.
- Freestyle Supporter lets you choose your own amount, from $3 AUD up.
- Amounts are in Australian dollars. Your bank converts them if your card is in another currency.
The practical bits
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Card, Apple Pay, or Link — no account to create, and your card details never reach us.
- Stripe emails you a receipt for the payment, and it shows on your statement as UNSUBBEDWARE.
Unsubbedware is run by one person, not a registered charity, so a donation isn’t tax-deductible. It’s a contribution, not a purchase — the apps are yours either way.
